A 46-year-old Ukrainian surgeon, Vitali S., had the very bad luck last Thur. of being killed at a tram stop in Lazarská St. in Prague when a heavy piece of roof ledge fell during a storm on the transit shelter he was under. The owner of the building is a unit of Pojišťovna VZP, a subsidiary of state-owned VZP medical insurer. The police are investigating to determine whether a crime of negligence was committed. Ex-Finance Min. Miroslav Kalousek of TOP 09, a big critic of the budgetary practices of the government of Petr Fiala, is vice chair of both the supervisory board of Pojišťovna VZP and its parent. He was nominated by his party colleague Health Min. Vlastimil Válek to represent the Fiala government. Kalousek spoke in general in an interview in Právo today about the inefficiency of the healthcare system and about how lots of money disappears into black holes. At VZP it's his political responsibility to make sure money disappearing into black holes doesn't result in buildings that start to crumble.
