Final Word from Wednesday, December 22, 2021
Regardless of whom he ultimately supports in the 2023 presidential race, whether Andrej Babiš, Vladimír Dlouhý, Tomio Okamura, Jiří Paroubek, Jiří Rusnok or someone else, Miloš Zeman is already helping to set the stage for the final confrontation. He said in his first post-hospital interview that he studied all the campaign programs for the Oct. elections and considered the Greens' the worst: "If you want to pay three times more for an electric car than for one with an internal-combustion engine, you're crazy." In his second and third post-hospital interviews, he warned against the "dangerous and harmful" Green Deal and called for withdrawing from it. Perhaps he will prove to be a bad forecaster. Perhaps the energy crisis will be resolved before the presidential campaign gets revved up, but it seems highly unlikely. Imagine Pavel Fischer, Miroslav Kalousek, Petr Pavel or another "democratic" candidate telling Czechs in a televised debate: "High energy prices are in fact good for you."
