Designated PM Petr Fiala met secretly at the Castle on Mon. with Pres. Miloš Zeman's chief of staff, Vratislav Mynář, before meeting with Zeman at the Lány retreat, leading to speculation that Zeman got a quid pro quo for accepting Jan Lipavský of the Pirates as foreign minister. TV Nova mentioned impunity from prosecution for Mynář as one of the possibilities being speculated about. There has been talk for more than a month about the post-election efforts of the expected justice minister, Pavel Blažek of ODS, and Mynář and Martin Nejedlý of the Castle. The idea of impunity for Mynář raises the debate to a new level, because Blažek would need to call on what outgoing Justice Min. Marie Benešová famously referred to as the "judicial mafia" to assure anyone impunity. Fiala and Blažek will not shake these suspicions easily. If Fiala were truly such a masterful political negotiator, he would convince Zeman to use his power of the pardon to grant impunity to Mynář.
