Just as the Vrbětice matter has been used as a convenient opportunity to clean the spies out of the Russian embassy, it could also be used to clean the leakers out of the intelligence services. Journalists are guaranteed the right to report information they obtain from sources, but it is a criminal act to leak classified information to the press. Editor-in-chief Dalibor Balšínek of Týdeník Echo wrote last week that Respekt magazine is the information service of the intelligence agencies. Petr Kolář of MFD wrote yesterday that BIS counterintelligence apparently leaked information to Respekt and to other media as a way to force the cabinet to act on Vrbětice. If it was high treason of Pres. Miloš Zeman to reveal secret case information on Sun., wasn't it also treason of the leakers to do the same thing more than a week earlier? It's a sad state of affairs when there are good arguments simultaneously for promoting BIS Dir. Michal Koudelka to general and for incarcerating him with common criminals.
