A good suicide bomber doesn't survive the attack, and if he does, it generally means the mission didn't go as planned. Ten days after Bohuslav Sobotka tried to sacrifice himself in the name of ridding Czech politics of Andrej Babiš, both are still alive. The attack so far has been unsuccessful, although Babiš's days as finance minister appear numbered. This puts ANO in a new predicament, but not ČSSD. It is back to where it was before Sobotka showed up wearing a faulty suicide vest. ČSSD's poll numbers are still in the doldrums, and it has the added problem of a chairman who failed to honor the coalition agreement by asking Pres. Miloš Zeman to dismiss Babiš. Who would sign another deal with Sobotka? As humiliating as it might now seem for ČSSD, its best option is to accept Zeman's proposal from last night of a new government without Sobotka or Babiš. A failed suicide bomber simply cannot successfully lead ČSSD into the elections. Lubomír Zaorálek can. [Czech Republic resignation crisis]
