Final Word from Wednesday, October 24, 2012
Hundreds of thousands of listeners of Czech Radio heard center-
left political analyst Lukáš Jelínek say last night that he thinks
Václav Klaus is taking part in an effort to bring down the
government of Petr Nečas and that it relates to Klaus's own
future political ambitions. Such an accusation is not only
embarrassing for Klaus (who has denied any such intention) but
also calls into question his commitment to his presidential vow
to carry out the office of the president in the interest of all the
people. If the president feels that a change of government is in
the interest of the people, shouldn't he state this openly instead
of engaging in intrigue, duplicity and equivocation with a group
of 6-7 like-minded MPs? And if Klaus is obfuscating his true
intentions with the prospect of personal political gain in the
future, doesn't this raise the question of whether he is abusing
his official position? When Klaus was in a similar position in 1997
to the one Nečas is in today, he declared that he was the victim
of an assassination attempt.[Czech Republic ODS rebels Sarajevo]
