Final Word from Tuesday, May 29, 2012
MFD had an eye-catching headline yesterday - Klaus supports
Zeman - but as is often the case, the headline didn't entirely
match the main body of the text. Klaus did state in the article
that people like Miloš Zeman who have done something for the
country should run for president, but he didn't necessarily limit
his endorsement to Zeman. Klaus might one day say the same
thing about Jan Fischer. Like the Sarkozy-Hollande or Obama-
Romney duels, it would make little difference in terms of the
trajectory of the country whether Zeman or Fischer won. The
deviation from the trajectory would only be something like +/-
5° in either case. Most of the Five Families understand this, so
their support and money will go behind these two candidates,
with the objective of making sure that no wild card has a chance.
This means especially Jan Švejnar and Jiří Dienstbier. And with
Zeman or Fischer, Klaus would have the added benefit of hearing
nice things said about him and being invited on occasion to
return to the Castle for a visit.[Czech Republic Václav Francois Nicolas Barack Mitt]
