Army Chief of Staff Karel Řehka is a product of the same American structures that produced Pres. Petr Pavel and that Donald Trump is now taking action against. Defense Min. Jana Černochová of ODS was also part of these structures, but at a much lower level, and she has now started to break from them, hence her call for European leaders to negotiate with Vladimir Putin and her statement in the Senate last week that Czechs are leaving the army in part because they don't want to serve in Ukraine. Řehka, with his powerful backers, has repeatedly shown disobedience to Černochová as the civilian head of the army. He told Novinky that he doesn't judge her comments or those of other politicians but definitely denies that soldiers are leaving the army because they fear being sent to Ukraine. Questioning the resolve of our soldiers to go to fight and to defend our country is extremely harmful to the nation's security, he said. Therein lies the crux of the matter. Řehka and Pavel are falling in line and presenting deployment to Ukraine as defense of the homeland, whereas most Czechs don't want to fight Joe Biden's war.
