Pres. Miloš Zeman commented publicly on the failure of his favorite in his Prague 5 Senate district, Miloslav Ludvík, to advance to the second round, but what about his least-favorite candidates in last weekend's elections? Václav Láska, who is high on Zeman's shitlist because of the articles of impeachment, helped spoil Ludvík's chances. Miroslava Němcová of ODS, who was the first to walk out of Zeman's inaugural address in March 2018, did extremely well in her Senate race. Milan Štěch of ČSSD also did well, as did Michal Šmarda of ČSSD. Martin Netolický of ČSSD, who was one of the regional governors Zeman wanted ousted, will likely remain in his position. Miloš "Taiwanese" Vystrčil of ODS has a good chance of reelection as Senate president. From Zeman's perspective, at least Jiří Dienstbier and Josef Bernard were brought down to size by voters. And of course Zeman's top dog, Andrej Babiš, was the overall official winner. All in all, Zeman has had better elections. [ Czech Republic president ANO ]
