Natural resources are limited, and a civilization that wants to survive does its best to amass, store and conserve them. Not Germany. It spends precious resources to build nuclear plants and coal-fired power plants, then it orders them to be shut down and pays their owners not to produce the energy. Now the big debate in Germany is whether to halt the near-complete Nord Stream 2 pipeline as a way to punish Vladimir Putin for maybe having ordered the Novichok poisoning of opposition politician Alexei Navalny. Donald Trump, who actually stands to gain the most in the short-term from the assassination attempt, stressed on Mon. that he was the first to bring up canceling the project. A few Czechs, esp. Daniel Křetínský, would also benefit from the cancelation, but there is much more at stake than just some short-term election or monetary gain. What the West is talking about is punishing Putin by forcing him to sell his precious natural gas to an energy-hungry China.
