Final Word from Thursday, June 11, 2020
Future Justice Min. Marie Benešová told MFD in July 2016 that there was conjecture that the police reorganization was a reaction to a planned search of the home of lawyer Radek Pokorný. Ex-Dir. Robert Šlachta of the ÚOOZ organized-crime unit didn't mention this in his new book, but he did say on Page 257 that it was Pokorný who put the final nail in ÚOOZ's coffin. We mentioned Pokorný's role on May 13, but it didn't end there. Šlachta writes on Page 293 that although Supreme State Prosecutor Pavel Zeman initially protested against the police reform, he quickly did an about-face. Interior Min. Milan Chovanec supposedly explained to him that he would be removed if he didn't help push the reform through. Even if ANO left the coalition over it, Chovanec continued, PM Bohuslav Sobotka was agreed with Pres. Miloš Zeman that the government would continue, and it would sack Pavel Zeman. This could easily explain the friction between Benešová and P. Zeman. [ Czech Republic ČSSD ]
