Just as in "Thelma & Louise," Jan & Jiří have decided not to cut off the engine and place their hands in full view. They're not giving up, and they'll keep going, even if it takes them off the cliff. The main difference being that Jan Hamáček and Jiří Zimola aren't running from the law. The two daredevils are plowing ahead of their own volition, hoping that they will sprout wings before their political vehicle comes crashing down. Those near the top of ČSSD who oppose this stunt have zero tolerance for Andrej Babiš, based on the hope that he is the one who can ultimately be driven into the abyss. Hamáček and Zimola have, however, made the calculation that Babiš will remain the PM for the next 3.5 years, whether ČSSD assists him in this or not, and that it's better to be part of it than to oppose it. The real question faced by ČSSD's members in their referendum isn't whether they like or trust Babiš, but whether they think they can outlive him as a political force.
