Liberal democracy is such a broad concept that it can be used to
promote anything in politics that is normally found in Western
democratic countries. A liberal-democratic party can be for
greater taxation or less, traditionalism or progressivism,
increased paternalism or greater individual responsibility. When
she left VV to found a new liberal-democratic party, to be called
LIDEM, Karolína Peake said that she liked the political agenda of
her old party, VV, but not its way of doing things. Now VV and
LIDEM disagree on a few key items, such as higher VAT, the tax
on non-sparkling wine and church restitution. It's still not clear
what LIDEM stands for. Except for providing the votes ODS and
TOP 09 need to do what they want. In this respect, LIDEM might
be closest in raison d'être to Vladimir Zhirinovsky's Liberal
Democratic Party of Russia. It's there mainly to vote the Kremlin
line and to add some spice to politics.[Czech Republic Věci veřejné]
