There are examples almost by the day of how carefully Václav Klaus is managing his reelection campaign. George W. Bush hadn't been gone a week when Klaus was already doing an about-face by adopting the ČSSD line on the radar station, saying that a referendum should be held. He also published articles in HN on the EU and in the FT on global warming that set him apart as someone willing to fight the current world order. Lest he totally alienate the Greens with his condemnation of the global-warming hysteria, he said in the FAZ yesterday that it would be best if the radar were a Nato initiative, which just happens to be the Greens' line. Klaus also said yesterday that he frowned when Czechoslovakia unilaterally abolished visas for Americans 17 years ago.
