Miloš Zeman wants to see the Greens wiped off the political map, but in the meantime, they're about the only politicians talking any sense. Not everyone can agree with their policies, of course, but the Greens are following in Václav Havel's footsteps as the conscience of the nation. Green Chair Martin Bursík said on Czech Radio that the heated budget debate is superficial and isn't addressing the issue of where the CR is headed in terms of spending priorities. Next year's budget is just an adjusted version of this year's, he said. He also criticized the idea of selling part of ČEZ without first saying what comes next. Will ČEZ buy up its own shares to support the stock price? Is ČSSD's alternative idea of selling Prague Airport also driven by some interest group, he asked, without mentioning J&T. Such impertinent questions! It's no wonder Zeman and others want to be rid of the Greens. [Czech Republic ČSSD chairman Green Party]
