As President Václav Klaus was blanketly praising Arnold Schwarzenegger's immigration policy, Premier Jiří Paroubek was formulating a very specific plan. He indicated in MFD on Sat. that multiculturalism (without using the word) led to the fall of the Roman empire and said that it will be extremely difficult for Europe to find a way to coexist with other civilizations. He said a skillful immigration policy could keep the peace in the CR. He favors giving precedence to immigrants from Slavic countries, plus Romania and Moldavia. Opening the doors to all, he said, could bring on the same kind of problems that other countries face. Experts from, say, India or Africa could also be let in, he said, but the selection process would be strict. He criticized Western Europe for letting in unskilled workers. Paroubek's plan will no doubt be controversial, but it's a starting point for a discussion.[Czech Republic European Union illegal aliens MF Dnes]
