Václav Klaus is so ubiquitous that many people are sure they know his every thought. His New Year's address, the press said, was an attempt to ingratiate himself to the Left, because he knows the Right won't be able to secure his reelection. All he must be doing, people say, is looking for a way out of his pickle. Miroslav Macek of ODS even wrote a limerick about it, which we offer in a loose translation:There was an old man at the Castle, who faced a perpetual Schlamassel, with Mr. Vacuous & Fake, making it hard to partake,of another five years at the Castle.Consider the possibility, though, that Klaus has already resigned himself to moving on. He told MFD that, if he's healthy, he'll continue to look for the next hill to climb. That raises two unanswered questions: Will he be well enough to climb, and is another term in office a big enough hill? [Czech Republic president MF Dnes Mirek Topolánek]
