Final Word from Friday, September 24, 2004
Czech politicians have gotten so good at telling the "truth" that voters have little chance of detecting when they're not. MP Zdeněk Kořistka of US-DEU claimed that two representatives of ODS offered him a bribe to bring down the government, and he then passed a polygraph test to prove his point. ODS is accusing Stanislav Gross and his co-conspirators of rigging the whole process. Before ex-politician Miroslav Macek of ODS had all the "facts," he said it'd be easy for the public to pick out the liars, because they'd be the ones who refused to take the polygraph. But later, after ODS's people refused the test, Macek switched gears and started to notice strange things in the process. Some aspects of the case are indeed strange, such as "Spynterior" Minister František Bublan's role. Overall, though, ODS risks being seen this time as the party who doth protest too much. Interior
