Taking a leaf out of Miloš Zeman's book, Ivan Pilip now says he'd run for US-DEU chair if extraordinary circumstances required it. However, he told Lidové noviny that the chairman should be a more popular person than he is. Vla-dimír Mlynář has been the favorite to head US, but one of our readers argued that his remark about not being right-wing was an overture to ČSSD. US is all but dead, the reader said, and Mlynář and others know this and are making future plans. Martin Weiss argued in Lidové noviny that ČSSD is intentionally using the "millionaire's" tax to humiliate and break the KDU/US Coalition parties, and especially US. Pilip, as acting US chair, is perhaps the only one who can save the party. If he allows US to disintegrate, it will be the third party (KDS, ODS, US) that disappeared or broke up under his guiding hand.
